Return to Indonesia July 1 2019

We arrived back at Helena Marina and found Sv KaijaSong in quite good form.  This is always a concern when leaving your ‘home’ for an extended period in the care and control of someone else.

In this case it was well cared for under the watchful eye of Mr. Wick’s good and competent staff at Helena Marina.

While we were gone these hard working young men effected repairs to a cracked watertank and our dinghy.  The watertank fix was perfect...the dinghy...well, maybe not so much...but they did try.

The Owner/Operator of Helena Marina is a soft spoken Tasmanian, Mr. Warwick Alliston.  Wick is an all round good guy who has been in Indonesia long enough to know just about everybody and where to get things done.  He is generous to a fault.  He seems to work non-stop and does so in a cool and quite reserved manner.  He is generous to a fault, highly efficient and kind.

Along with his trusty sidekick Miss Ayu, they and their staff are willing and seemingly able to move mountains to accommodate you.  It seems there is nothing that is too big an issue for them.  It was our delight to know them, and a pleasure to recommend them to you.

We departed the marina and spent a couple of nights on the hook by a wee island just south of the main anchorages of Sorong.  In part, it was to decompress.  Kaija and I had been going hard at it for months, every day a social event or two, trains, planes and automobiles and ferries to catch.  Three months of rigid schedules to keep…We needed to just unwind.

It was all good until we awoke in the middle of the night to find a local ‘nare-d-well’ had boarded us and was quietly using his ill gained skills to attempt to rid us of our much needed outboard engine.  Luckily, without too much effort and using my best impression of a ‘wild and crazy guy’ he got the idea that it would be much better for him to may a quick getaway than to waste any time at all in trying to calm me down…I was not about to be easily mollified and made quite clear to him his options.
It is a small community, and I recognized his unique little water craft enough to do a drive by of my own the following day…he knew that I knew who he was and he also knew just how much trouble he would be in with the local authorities if I made them aware.  In the end, I did let Mr. Wick know of the event and he acted accordingly.  I doubt other cruisers will be bothered by this young roudian in the future.

We were looking forward to seeing our good friends Murry & Carol Sv Jams

and

Wes & Stine of Sv Sarabande and found them at Wick’s other marina, T. Garam, located just north of the main town of Sorong.

We spent a couple of days getting KaijaSong shipshape and enjoyed spending time with these fun folk.

It was good to be back aboard our beloved KaijaSong.

Life is Good!

Time to go Sailing.
