New Years 2016 Savu Savu Anchorage - KARMA you say!

After a week of hard partying we decided to remain aboard for New Year’s Eve and Kaija’s Birthday celebration.  This turned out to be a very wise decision.  Along about midnight the winds started to howl and increased with some force for the remainder of the night.  As morning broke on New Year’s Day 2016 we discovered that we had been visited by our first cyclone of the season…Cyclone Ula.  Although we were undamaged, that was not the case for the good ship Karma that was sitting quite high on her side on the reef having broken her mooring during the night.

Karma....mmmm???

A group of cruisers gathered quickly to see if we could render assistance and after being joined by the Motor Vessel Contraband were able to finally pull her back into deep water.  This turned out to be the training exercise for what was to be a very busy cyclone season in Savu Savu.
